Dissertation defense!

March 22. I successfully defended my dissertation today! Emily and many friends attended to lend their welcome support. I answered questions for about an hour and a half and then the committee told me I have passed. Huzzah!

Here I am outside the Hesburgh Library just after the defense, the very picture of relief and happiness.


Emily being there made it an even better day. Sitting outside afterward we realized that the baby was there too--he heard everything! His first exposure to Old English and Latin.
